The Digital Art Imaginings of David Miller

"New Leaf"

The computer screen is an arena in with colors, shapes, paint, canvas, photos, memories and imagination intersect to create new landscapes and dreamscapes that express my longings and discoveries in my own visual language.

In this arena, I am free to explore, create, combine, deconstruct, and alter appearances as the spirit moves me. Meaning emerges from from this process just as it does on a canvas. The computer no more makes the art than just canvas and paint make a painting.

I am inspired by nature, abstract painting, photography, software, geometry, the art of different cultures and more.

Though this site will showcase my digital abstract art (available both on watercolor paper and on canvas), I also have a body of photo-based landscape/nature images as well.

In terms of abstraction, I like both geometric and organic forms, and used both approaches in the execution and conceptualization of my work.

The computer naturally lends itself to geometry, but since photography can enter a work at any stage, organic abtraction can result as well. And above all, colors can be combined with infinite variations and effects.

Abstraction can come directly from nature as in this water image. When we gaze at water or fire or at clouds (all those mercurial elements), we are transported into a waking trance and our imaginations start to play.

Please roam freely among these images and share with me your thoughts about them.
